Movember: a global movement for men’s health

Movember, a blend of “moustache” and “November”,  is a global movement that began in Australia in 2003. Its goal is to encourage men to grow a moustache throughout November to raise awareness about critical men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The moustache becomes a symbol for breaking taboos, sparking conversations, and promoting preventive behaviors such as early screening.

Men often shy away from discussing their health or seeking help, which can worsen outcomes. Movember calls on everyone to take action — to raise awareness and support men in their health journey.

A mission to save lives through conversation and action

Movember’s core mission is to improve men’s health worldwide. Because men have a shorter life expectancy than women — often linked to lower engagement in preventive care — Movember aims to shift attitudes and behaviors. Its key objectives are to:

  • Raise awareness about screening and prevention for male-specific cancers, especially prostate and testicular cancer.
  • Encourage men to speak openly about mental health and seek support.
  • Fund medical research and innovative programs dedicated to men’s health.
  • Foster a compassionate outlook on male vulnerability and promote a culture of mutual support.

Each moustache grown is not only a symbol of commitment and conversation but also a tangible way to generate donations that fund vital projects worldwide. Since its inception, Movember has helped finance over 1,300 initiatives, potentially saving millions of lives.

Armatis’ commitment to fighting cancer and fostering workplace well-being

Armatis is fully aligned with this movement, actively supporting the health and well-being of its employees and their families affected by illness. Since 2018, Armatis has been a signatory of the French National Cancer Institute’s (INCA) Charter — a pledge built on 11 principles designed to help maintain or reintegrate employees dealing with illness into the workplace.

To make this commitment real and accessible, Armatis has implemented several support systems for all employees, offering confidential and personalized guidance:

  • A listening cell comprised of HR staff, a social advisor, and colleagues who have personally experienced illness — all trained by the INCA to provide a safe, empathetic, and confidential space for discussion.
  • A “My Health Journey” brochure available through HR services, providing guidance on managing one’s health journey at work.
  • E-learning modules for managers to help them better support employees during a diagnosis and upon returning to work.

These initiatives reflect Armatis’ strong belief in combining social performance with human care — ensuring that every individual’s journey is understood, respected, and supported in the best possible way.

Why Movember matters to all of us

Movember is about more than men’s health — it’s a collective cause that affects families, friends, and entire communities. By supporting Movember, we each contribute to changing mindsets, breaking stigmas, and saving lives through prevention, support, and research. It’s a call for both individual and collective responsibility — a reminder that taking care of one’s health is a sign of strength, not weakness.
